I don't get cursed much, but when I do, it hangs around a long time. There are a couple more rules, but that's the gist of it. You get rid of a curse by successfully completing an adventure. If a die matches the black die, it is removed from the pool of available dice for the turn. It adds a black die that must roll every time. You get cursed in the same way, with punishments on adventure cards. You lose that die if you fail an adventure. It is in all ways identical to the green dice. Rewards on adventure cards can include a blessing, which adds a white die to your pool. The blessed/cursed mechanic is pretty simple. It is a good start if you're just looking for some new stuff to play with that still feels like the base game. I intend to buy the other two asap, myself. But I truly think you would enjoy Unseen Forces. If you have to choose just one to get, I would go with either Gates or Omens - whichever theme you prefer. You can use any combo of the three decks with any of the other expansions. I know what the new decks will do, but I haven't seen enough examples to know how to feel about them. Grave Consequences looks like it could be cool, but I haven't seen much info about it yet. Again, not compatible with Gates of Arkham, but it is with the other two. I think I'll dig the theme even more than Gates. I'm very excited to get it when my local store restocks (they said next week!). Omens of Ice has some similar changes to Gates, it looks like, but with a different theme. It is not compatible with the new Omens of Ice, but is with the other two expansions. Since we got this one, we play about 2/3 of games with it. In many ways, it makes the game more thematic for me. Makes the game a bit more difficult, which can be nice. Gates of Arkham changes the base game completely, replacing the adventure cards with new ones with some new rules. I think I have more fun with it with Gates than with just the base game, as the new mechanics pop up more often. It is compatible with any of the other expansions. I love playing with the new dice, and it plays very well with the other expansions, which give options for them. Unseen Forces adds the blessed/cursed mechanic and some new cards - the Mythos deck sees the most boost, and there are some very cool new Investigators. But both Unseen Forces and Gates of Arkham are superb. Grave Consequences isn't even in B&M or many online stores yet. Omens of Ice and Grave Consequences are too new for many to have played. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
